It is with great admiration and respect for Marcy that led me to this
project. I was interested in creating some tangible evidence that Marcy was
and continues to be an inspiration to those with whom she comes in
contact, with whom she shares herself.

I sensed this inspiration as a student at Bates College through my
girlfriend’s association with the Dance Program. Spending time around the
dancers, I observed how enthusiastic they were about their own dances and
each other’s dances. Nothing seemed too wild to explore. It was almost as
if it didn’t matter what they did, so long as they tried something. It was
almost as if there were no bounds. And that, I believe, was the point.

After I married, many of my visits to Bates were dance related. I was even
delighted when my wife set a dance to my music and performed at the
College. With each visit, I see further how Marcy shares herself with those
around her. Her sharing takes many forms—an ear to listen, some food to
eat, a bed in which to sleep, advice to consider.

More often than not, it is just Marcy being Marcy.
